need a new ride

well we need a new ride for the wife to commute to kc and topeka for work. need something with at least 30mpg highway and 140 plus hp. we have looked at the nissan sentra, suzuki sx4 (favorite right now) cobalt, focus and a kia spectra 5dr hatch. anything else you guys could recommend for us that maybe we haven't thought of? want a 5spd with pw and pl and cruise control. seems hard to find a stick with power options. guess there are way to many people that don't want to shift their cars anymore. appreciate any input you all might have. oh we are wanting to stay as close to 10k as possible with less than 50k on it

Corolla or Civic? Both come pretty well-equipped with power options and easy to find in 5MT.

hard to find either one with a 5mt and power, seems like the car companies figure if you want the cheaper trans you get the whole cheaper car with no options.

Mazda 3's are getting cheaper too, I would look into those. They are very nice.

I'm a fan of civics for cheap, reliable transportation. I put 100k on mine in 3 years, drove the snot out of it, and it never broke. I traded it in for as much as I paid for it

well, the good thing about the 2.0/2.5(depending on what car you get) the things are damn near bullet proof. just keep up with basic maintenance and you should be good. the "reliability" with volkswagen/audi has always been a misnomer to me, especially in the later model years.

Even if it were gonna be a daily driver/beater, those Fusions are ugly in my opinion.
