School me on Video Cameras

Im interested in getting some sort of camcorder/video camera. I am wanting something that shoots hd that i can hook up to my computer that is not super expensive. I want it for cruises/meets and other general ass-hattery. What are some good options?

They're cheap and they're high def. Idk what more there is to know about them.

If you are wanting a 'good' high def camera, you're gonna get into the $500+ range and I'm assuming you dont' want to go there.

THe flip cams are what most youtube celebrities use, or iPod nano's/iPhones. They're all kind of in the same price range.

i just looked up the prices and they are more middle of the road than i expected. i thought the flips went for around 100. the one for 200 on best buy's site is 720p at 30 frames per second, which is no better than an slr. if im going to shell out much more than 200, id rather go all out and get the slr.

tyler, how into it are you looking to go? if you got the scratch, i know of a few really nice SLR video cameras(i did all the research into getting one, just never did)

this is what i would recommend finding used- http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...5&modelid=7512

the sony vx line has a nice bunch of cameras as well. and actually, as nam said, handy cams are a great camera to film with, you can do a lot with those bad boys. my buddy used to film using a handy cam and a wide angle lens and it did a great job.

I wouldn't think of an SLR being handy in an ass-hattery situation though.

you'd be surprised, before my ass-hattery with you gentlemen, i began my ass-hattery career as a wee lad on rollerblades with his homies....this is where i learned the art of ass-hattery.

but it would be handy in a lot more ways...

and joe, that stuff looks way too pro for what im wanting. definitely dont want to spend over 250 for just a video camera. if i were to get an slr with a video function, i would be willing to spend more, but not for a while

tyler, you really just want to make sure whatever you find is miniDV and that it films in HD as per your requirements

JCP is where I got my flip video knock off camera. It works the same and it was way cheaper, though cheaply made.

They no longer offer the same camera, but this one has the same functions.

It's another chinese knock-off but it'll record video in high-def and you can put it on your computer.

HDD and 1080 HandyCams are amazing...

whatever fits your price Tyler! and dont forget to go to best buy and handle some cameras just for your feel.
